Burberry has always been the keeper of classic, preppy elegance. The signature beige/navy and red ‘Nova’ plaid of theirs was always a little too stuffy for me though. I like bright, happy colors in my accessories, especially when the Manhattanite uniform calls for so much black. I was happy to come across this particular Burberry Spring Check Canvas Tote though. The shape is a cheerful, more contemporary silhouette, with a flirty coin purse attached. The sassy pink, green, tangerine and yellow stripes make a nice update to their traditional look. Definitely not your mother’s handbag…

Created in a non-traditional and very passionate plum patent leather, this party-ready clutch also sports suede details, a brass logo plate, wristlet, and a zipped foldover compartment. The plum is a nice change from basic black, and the size and pockets make it as convenient as it is trendy.
